I’m Sarah Groves, a person‑centred counsellor and psychotherapist based in Warrington, offering online counselling for adults across the UK.  Through Heads Together Therapy, I provide a calm, supportive space for people affected by chronic illness, long-term health conditions, late-diagnosed ADHD, overwhelm, loneliness and identity change to talk openly, feel understood, and begin to make sense of what they’re carrying.

My work is shaped by a deep understanding of how life-changing experiences can affect the way people see themselves.  I often support adults who are living with chronic illness, long term health conditions, as well as adults adjusting to an ADHD diagnosis later in life. These experiences can bring overwhelm, loneliness, grief, burnout, identity shifts, and a sense of not knowing where to turn — they deserve a therapeutic space where the emotional side is taken seriously.

My understanding of chronic illness is informed by both my professional training and my lived experience of multiple autoimmune conditions. I know how difficult it can be to navigate uncertainty, fluctuating symptoms, medical appointments, changes in energy, and the quiet grief of losing parts of the life you once had. This helps me offer a grounded, compassionate presence for people who feel misunderstood or alone in what they’re facing.

I also bring lived experience of receiving an ADHD diagnosis later in life. I understand the mix of relief, confusion, grief, anger and emotional upheaval that can come with suddenly seeing your past through a new lens — the years of masking, burnout, self-criticism, missed understanding and the slow, steady work of rebuilding your sense of self. This helps me support adults who are making sense of their diagnosis and looking for  a kinder, more accurate understanding of who they are.

You do not need to have the right words before you begin therapy; we can work gently with whatever feels important, confusing, painful or hard to explain.  I bring warmth, honesty, and steadiness to the therapeutic relationship. I don’t sit in silence or hide behind clinical language. Instead, I offer a grounded, human presence where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace, without judgement or pressure.

I hold an MSc in Counselling & Psychotherapy from the University of Salford and am a registered member of the BACP. My background includes research into the psychological experiences of adults diagnosed with ADHD later in life, and my professional training, research and lived experience all inform the compassion, steadiness and understanding I bring to this work.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, lost, lonely, or unsure how to cope with the emotional impact of chronic illness, long-term health conditions, or a late ADHD diagnosis, you do not have to navigate it alone. I’m offer online counselling for adults across the UK and can provide a space where you can feel seen, supported, and able to reconnect with who you are.

My approach to Counselling

My approach is person‑centred, which means the relationship between us is at the heart of the work. I offer a warm, steady, human presence — not silence, not clinical distance, and not a list of strategies you’re expected to follow. Instead, I create a space where you can talk openly, feel understood, and explore what you’re carrying at your own pace.

I work gently and collaboratively, helping you make sense of your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgement or pressure. Whether you’re living with chronic illness or adjusting to a late ADHD diagnosis, I understand how overwhelming, lonely, and confusing these experiences can be. My role is to walk alongside you, offering support, clarity, and compassion as you begin to reconnect with who you are.

Therapy with me isn’t about fixing you — because you’re not broken. It’s about understanding yourself more deeply, finding steadiness in the midst of uncertainty, and building a kinder relationship with your own story.
